Case-insensitivity is closer to how humans think of names, while case-sensitivity has the advantage that two file names won’t be the same unless every single codepoint making up their name are the same (or as you put it, there are no collisions due to assumptions of the comparison logic). But my point is much simpler: FAT32 and exFAT won, end of story. If you go for case-sensitivity, you are introducing the massive headache of having to interface with FAT32 and exFAT that are case-insensitive.
